We are Loka and Vidarbha, travelers on the path of Bhakti. Our journey with Bhakti Yoga started twenty-five years ago when like many of you, we were exploring inner awareness and spiritual understanding.
The path of Bhakti and the Bhagavad-Gita as an ancient wisdom text helped us delve deep into an inner world of self-acceptance and love and we found ourselves studying with the world’s foremost scholars and luminaries on this path who are part of an unbroken lineage of Bhakti teachers that have painstakingly passed on this knowledge for thousands of years. The most recent and preeminent exponent of Bhakti teachings in the western world is A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1896-1977) . His writings form the basis of our presentations.
The study of the Bhagavad-Gita and practices of mantra meditation and kirtan led us into the incredible mysteries of the yoga of sound. Soon, we began teaching Bhakti at our home to a few families which over time transformed into a community of spiritual seekers. We now host regular community gatherings of Bhakti students online and in our home in the DC metro area.
As part of our bhakti practice, we send complementary Bhagavad Gitas and other Bhakti texts to colleges, hospitals, prisons, shelters; teach mantra meditation and share the Gita at colleges, vegan festivals and various events.
As teachers of Bhakti, we help students unpack ancient Bhakti wisdom texts, creating bridges with the modern world, tying the old to the new, the known to the unknown.
Our greatest joy in life is watching people connect with their inner self, while letting go of patterns that no longer serve them. We love watching people heal and grow by learning mantra meditation and studying the Bhagavad Gita.
We believe that spiritual growth happens most naturally when we are in a community supporting each other. We believe in the power of group study and sharing. This is why we created BhaktiWise. We hope you will try our community and the various courses we offer.
“…helped me cultivate commitment to Bhakti practice; Loka and Vidarbha are so knowledgeable, gracious and humble; they are a fountain of wisdom providing guidance to our many questions.”
Unlocking the Mysteries of the Bhagavad-Gita
Move past the limitations and anguish created by the mind and enter a state of awareness that leads to a purposeful and stress-free life.
This 12-week course will introduce you to the world of the Bhagavad-Gita, or “The Song of God,” which contains within its pages the essence of all Vedic and Yoga philosophy. The Bhagavad-Gita provides a comprehensive guide to liberate ourselves from the conditioning and constructs that underlie anxiety, tension, and ego-driven demands allowing us to make sense of life like never before.
The word “Bhakti” in Sanskrit means “attachment, fondness, faith, devotion, and love.” Bhakti yoga is therefore the practice, and the study, of cultivating love, faith, and devotion to our divine source, who lives within us, and within all things. The goal of our work, and the purpose of this website is to help sincere spiritual seekers to cultivate the philosophy and practices of Bhakti yoga while also creating a community space for learning and sharing along the way. The main offerings we provide (and there will be more coming soon!), are live and interactive online classes on the Bhagavad Gita, which is one of the primary philosophical texts of Bhakti Yoga, as well as regular mantra meditation classes, where students can learn the primary form of meditation that Bhakti yogis have used for thousands of years. The Gita and mantra meditation have changed our lives so deeply, that we have completely dedicated our lives to teaching them to others, and so we hope that you will come and experience the benefits of Bhakti Yoga for yourself!
